April is finally here! With that comes more daylight, warmer weather, blooming flowers, and the desire to spend more time outside. Most likely, our pups are itching to enjoy this warm weather as well. However, not all outdoor spots are equal— some locations are more fun, practical, and suitable for our furry friends.

Figuring out which parks, trails, and locations are best for pups can be tricky, so Pets a Go Go pulled together some of our favorite outdoor dog-friendly spots in Westchester and Fairfield County for your consideration. We hope that you will enjoy these spots as much as we do!

Westchester County, New York

Kensico Dam Plaza | 1 Bronx River Pkwy Rd, Valhalla, NY 10595

This location is gorgeous and perfect for a warm spring day. It has opportunities for an intense hike, a short but energetic walk, or a nice picnic with room for your dog to play. Kensico Dam Plaza has a large greenway at the dam’s base, pathways through the woods up to the top of the dam, a starting place to hike the Bronx River Parkway Reservation, and beautiful views of the Kensico reservoir.

Rockefeller State Park Preserve | 125 Phelps Way, Pleasantville, NY 10570

The Rockefeller State Park has over 1,700 acres of land, with valleys, hills, fields, and streams, so there is a lot for your pup to explore. There are many great trails at this preserve that will allow you to escape into nature for a little while.

Ward Pound Ridge Reservation | Reservation Rd, Pound Ridge, NY 10576

This park has many miles of trails that lead you through meadows, woods, streams, and more. This location sits on the border between Westchester and Fairfield County, so it is perfect for most Pets a Go Go customers. You don’t want to miss out on the beauty of Ward Pound Ridge.

Rumbrook Park East Dog Park | 850 Dobbs Ferry Rd, White Plains, NY 10607

This dog park is perfect if you want your dog to socialize, with a fenced area for small dogs and a fenced area for larger dogs. This space is set up to allow dogs to run around and play safely, so if you have a particularly energetic pup, this is the place for you to go.

Dog-Friendly Restaurants | Multiple Locations

A great option to let your dog soak in some sunshine without going on a hike is to take your pup with you while you eat a meal at a dog-friendly restaurant. There are many great options in Westchester, including Hudson Social, Jackie B’s, The Lazy Boy Saloon, Via Forno, Walter’s Hot Dogs, and more!

Fairfield County, Connecticut

Lake Mohegan | 960 Morehouse Hwy, Fairfield, CT 06825

The area of Lake Mohegan spans over 170 acres, with wooded areas, open spaces, a river, and, of course, the lake. Your pups can splash in the lake or river or walk with you in this dog-friendly area on the long trail. You don’t want to miss this beautiful area this spring.

Cranbury Park | 300 Grumman Ave, Norwalk, CT 06851

Covering 227 acres, Cranbury Park has wooded areas, an orchard, and a dog park for your pup to enjoy. In the park center, you will find the great lawn, the orchard, and the dog park within the orchard. Multiple trails stretch around the park’s surrounding area you can hike with your dog.

Winslow Dog Park | 44 Compo Rd N, Westport, CT 06880

This location is perfect if you want to let your dog run free for a bit and play with other pups. This dog park has multiple trails, fields, gardens, and large off-leash areas. Make sure your dog interacts well with other dogs if you come here!

Collis P. Huntington State Park | 9 Dodgingtown Rd, Redding, CT 06896

This massive state park covers over 1,000 acres and extends into the towns of Redding, Newtown, and Bethel. This park is known for the statues of bears and wolves that greet you as you enter the park. Collis P. Huntington Park has trails, ponds, woodlands, and open fields.
